MBR Plant (Membrane BioReactor)
MBR systems integrate activated sludge biological treatment with physical separation through membrane filtration for almost complete removal of suspended solids, colloids, associated COD and bacteria.
Membrane filtration systems, utilizing microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF), allow to obtain high-quality effluents, ready for discharge into surface water or for reuse.
Whether operating in the industrial or municipal sector, it’s the ideal solution for new installations but also for the technological upgrades of existing biological plants, both in terms of quality and treatment capacity.
Overview
Show more Show lessThe filtration systems we provide, in collaboration with our partners, typically consists of:
- Pre-treatment with coarse and fine screening, removal of sand, oils and grease.
- Feeding system for the aerated mixture from the biological plant and recirculation to the head of the same.
- Membrane filtration unit, installed in different configurations (side stream, submerged, or mixed) with membranes immersed in the biological compartment or in dedicated tanks to optimize maintenance operations.
Feeding to the membrane tanks can be by gravity with downstream sludge recirculation (Pump-from mode) or pumped with gravity recirculation (Pump-To mode). - Sludge recirculation and management system.
- Permeate extraction and management system of filtered water towards discharge or reuse.
- Membrane aeration system.
- CIP (Cleaning In Place) section with automatic and programmable washing cycles to reduce fouling and scaling.
A compact and robust system for consistent performance over time.
Features and Rangeability
Show more Show lessWe design and size each plant according to the type of wastewater, the flow rates and the specific characteristics of the incoming pollutants to be degraded, such as COD, BOD, nitrogen and/or the presence of secondary pollutants.
Main plant features:
- Configuration: Pump-To or Pump-From
- Membrane types: tubular ceramic for microfiltration, polymeric hollow fiber membranes for ultrafiltration
Treated water characteristics:
- Concentration of suspended solids in the membrane tank can reach values of 12-15 g/l depending on the type of treatment
- Removal of suspended solids down to TSS ≤ 5 mg/l
The plant can be supplied in a compact and modular skid-mounted configuration or integrated into dedicated tanks (concrete or steel), depending on the size and layout. This ensures maximum installation flexibility for both new plants and retrofitting projects.
